I am currently a PhD candidate in Politics at the University of Hamburg with funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). I hold an LL.M. from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (2024), an MPhil (2023) and an LL.B. (2020), both from the University of Sao Paulo. My research lies at the intersection between political theory, constitutional law, and legal philosophy and currently focuses on constitution-making and constitutional change, as well as on the relationship between constitutions and migration. At the University of Hamburg, I teach undergraduate courses on topics of democratic theory and modern constitutionalism.

In my PhD project, I analyze the relationship between constituent power and the people. My analysis focuses on four contemporary situations that upset this relationship: the rise of populist movements that mobilize the rhetoric of peoplehood to implement autocratic measures; the demands from immigrants in the face of constitutions of their countries of residence; the participation of exiles in constitution-making after the fall of authoritarian regimes; and the participation of external agents (such as other states, international organizations, INGOs, and foreign experts) in constituent processes.
MASTER’S RESEARCH
In my master’s thesis, I analyzed the relevance of constituent power for conceptualizing constitution-making and for justifying constitutional orders. I sought to integrate insights from legal and political theory in order to address some fundamental problems associated with this concept, such as constitutional entrenchment; the possibility of breaking with and renewing a political order; and the link between constitution-making and constitutional legitimacy.
